Carillion Construction Training has helped hundreds of unemployed people to master a valuable trade We offer paid apprenticeships, where young people can earn as they learn, and we run training programmes for unemployed adults, as well as providing a range of training and assessment services for other employers.
Carillion is recognised as the UK’s leading construction training organisation by the Government Training Inspectorate. We provide high quality training at 18 specialist construction training colleges around the UK – the largest construction training network in the country. Our colleges are run by experienced craftspeople, who are also fully trained and qualified instructors.

We offer apprenticeships and training in six key areas:
- Carpentry
- Bricklaying
- Painting and Decorating
- Plastering/Dry lining
- General Construction
Apprenticeships for young people. We provide construction trade apprenticeships for over 1,000 16 to 24 year olds every year.
The two or three year programmes include:
- induction training to adjust from school to work;
- essential craft skills and key skills training at Carillion colleges and on construction sites;
- valuable on-site work experience;
- NVQ Levels 2 and 3 and City & Guilds Construction Awards;
- CSCS skilled worker card, which is required to work on any major contractor’s building site.
Programmes for unemployed adults. Linked to Government-funded training and to local employment and regeneration initiatives, our programmes include:
- initial assessment to establish trade and appropriate NVQ level;
- key skills training at Carillion colleges;
- valuable on-site work experience;
- industry recognised qualifications – assessment and NVQ certification;
- career assistance and job search.
Working in partnership. We work closely with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to meet the local and national needs of the industry. We provide training and assessment services for the CITB and other construction employers, and work with schools, local authorities and development agencies to promote construction careers.
